'JAMES, SON of Joseph, brother of Jesus' reads the inscription on a first-century ossuary reported by
Biblical Archaelogy Review. It gives us powerful archaelogical evidence of the existence of James, and more importanly, Jesus Himself. According to the print article, the statistical probability that it is
the James and Jesus is quite strong. Quite frankly, there's not much controversy even among strong secularists that Jesus existed (a few die-hards argue against it). When I was a teaching assistant the professor I was working under dismissed any possibility that there was not a historical Jesus. The question ultimately isn't whether He existed, but rather who He was (is). Is the James ossuary genuine? It's probably impossible to say definitively, but if it was anyone but a Biblical figure there wouldn't be much debate about it. It would simply be accepted.
