SERMON THIS MORNING: 'The Gospel & Judas: What's the Gospel Truth About Judas Iscariot?' The next installment on my Beatitudes series will have to wait as I thought this was a bit more immediately timely.

One of the ironic things about the current trend of promoting Gnosticism is how inherently anti-egalitarian it is. The Gnostics claimed to have 'insider' information, and the point of the 'Gospel of Judas' is that Jesus had the inside scoop about the Kingdom for Judas, which would elevate him above the other apostles. This flies in the face of the universality of the true Gospel message.

By its very nature the gospel is revealed truth; it is no longer hidden and inaccessible. It also contradicts everything that Jesus said to his apostles in response to their constant bickering about who was the greatest. Gnosticism, despite its claim to shun the material, is simply another call to arrogant carnality, the desire to be superior by having special knowledge. The true Gospel calls us to be brothers, fellow heirs with Christ and reflections of His nature through humility and service.
