PRO-CHOICE: ISSUE OR DISTRACTION?

A regular theoebes reader, and in demand college administrator, has hit the big time at drlaura.com in the 'Letters From Readers' section:
Those that are for the taking of an unborn life hide under the guise of "Pro-choice." This title does not address the issue properly. It is nothing more than a straw man. The actual problem is that people are either unclear on, or choose to hide from, what the real choice is. The choice that is presented is the same one that has faced man since the beginning of time. The choice is to keep God's commandments or to sin. Simply stated the real choice is between right and wrong - murder and life.

Be sure to read it all.

It's not QUITE as simple as all that. To equate the termination of a first trimester pregnancy with the wanton killing of an adult human being is, SIMPLY STATED, a poor ethical judgment. If you wish to attach a supernatural, spiritual quality to an embryo or even a fertilized egg cell, you're welcome to your belief, and you're welcome to NOT choose to have an abortion. But since your belief is based on a religious supposition that not ALL people of faith share, the government has no reason to choose sides.

Poor SITUATIONAL ethics, maybe.

And government, in choosing to endorse the practice with tax dollars, IS choosing sides.

...I mean, that was the very thing you argued when it came to plastic baby Jesuses, right?

Medical textbooks and scientific reference works consistently agree that human life begins at conception. The second that the egg is fertilized by the sperm, bringing into being or existence the zygote, you have genetically a distinct individual. You have life and it is human. That very fact is what makes it a human life. There are many scientists who have testified that life begins at conception. The attempt to say that this is not life by pro-choice advocates is only an attempt to muddy the water.

It is scientifically inaccurate to say that an embryo or a fetus is not a human being simply because the human life is at an earlier stage of development than a born infant. This is like saying a toddler is not a human being, or is less of a human being, than a full grown adult. It’s human life regardless.

Chuck, Alan is speaking from the viewpoint of a Christian who believes in the WHOLE word of God. So then if not ALL "people of faith" share this Biblical view, then those who do not need to repent of it.

Jehovah God holds every life as precious. He did not advocate that man should destroy it. In Ps 127:3, the King and Prophet David says,” Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb a reward. “(ESV) He also writes regarding the Lord, “For You formed my inward parts; You wove me in my mother's womb (Ps 139:13) In such places like this, we can infer that God knows us in our conception and birth. This speaks to His omniscience and acknowledgement of our very being and soul, despite what mankind may or may not do to us.Those "people of faith" you speak of who willfully ignore these passages do so at their own detriment.

I know that's probably not satisfactory to your pluralistic mindset, but it's the truth.

BTW, I agree with Mitch here. The fact that the government supports the practice with our tax dollars IS indeed choosing sides.
